The downtown tech movement continues as NYU Polytechnic opens MAGNET at Metro Tech Center next fall. MAGNET stands for the Media and Gaming Network. NYU states that this new multi-school cluster will co-locate teaching and research programs in games as a creative art form, game design, digital media design, computer science, and engineering – with each program retaining its department affiliation and school identity. NYU is one of the leading universities in video game design in the country, and this 40,000 square foot space will attract undergraduate and graduate gamers. According to the Entertainment Software Rating Board, the video game industry brings in over $10.5 billion in annual revenue and is expected to keep rising.  This falls right in line with the DUMBO Improvement District, Downtown Brooklyn Partnership and the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation’s Tech Triangle development plans.  Click here to read more about the program-http://brooklyn.happeningmag.com/the-tech-triangle-brooklyn/
