Every year, The Brooklyn Botanic Garden conducts The Greenest Block in Brooklyn Awards. The awards promote streetscape, tree stewardship, and community development. Residents and businesses come together to beautify their tree banks and sidewalks to compete for the greenest block. Here are the top winners for 2014:
Winner Residential: Macon Street between Ralph and Howard Avenues. Bed Stuy
Winner National Grid Leadership in Sustainable Practices Award: 6/15 Green Community Garden. 6th Ave and 15th Street, Park Slope
Winner Commercial Category: Montague Street between Clinton and Henry Street, Brooklyn Heights
Winner Greenest Storefront (Tie!): Bed Stuy Fresh and Local Grocery and Master Cuts Barbershop, Boerum Hill
Winner Best Street Tree Beds: Macon Street Ralph/Howard Block Association, Bed Stuy
Winner Best Community Garden Streetscape: The Red Shed Community Garden, Williamsburg
Winner Best Children’s Gardening Project: East 25th Street Block Association, East Flatbush
Winner Best Window Box: Pall Walton, 204 Maple Street, Prospect- Lefferts Gardens
