Wanna enjoy the outdoors this weekend, now that sunny skies and warm temperatures have returned to Brooklyn? Check out the 37th Annual TD Five Boro Bike Tour, which takes place tomorrow beginning at 7:45am.
As the name suggests, Five Boro Bike Tour bikers ride through all five boroughs – Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island, The Bronx, and, of course, Brooklyn. 32,000 cyclists are expected to participate, according to the Bike New York website.
The Brooklyn leg of the race begins when bikers ride over the Pulaski bridge into BK. From there, they hug the waterfront, eventually riding onto the BQE and taking that across the Verrazano Bridge and into Staten Island. You can view the complete route map courtesy of Bike New York here: Five Boro Bike Tour Route Map.
Registration is required to ride in the Tour, and unfortunately this year’s event is sold out. However, it’s free to watch, and the route map indicates that the course has 3 “Entertainment Cheer Zones” in Brooklyn: at Brooklyn Bridge Park, the Navy Yard, and the intersection of Calyer St. & Franklin St. Bands and other acts are scheduled for the Cheer Zones, and you can view the complete entertainment schedule on the Bike New York website.
Also, the Tour website indicates that they’re still looking for volunteers for the race. Check out the site for more info.
Proceeds from the Bike Tour go towards Bike New York’s biking education classes.
