Mad Men Pregame Cocktail
As I am sure you are all aware, because the ads are plastered in just about every subway stop in the city, the new season of Mad Men starts tonight at 9pm (YESSS!). And, as we channel our inner Don’s and Joanie’s, we prepare for the most important event of the evening, the pregame. Drinking is a commonality in every Mad Men episode, so to that we must uphold the tradition. I sniffed around online for the recipe of an Old Fashioned, Don’s signature drink. The recipe is very simple, but there was one ingredient I wasn’t sure of, aromatic bitters(??). I marched myself down to The Juice Box in Windsor Terrace to see if they could save my pregame, and sure enough, Bitters was staring at me in the face when I walked in. Thanks, Juice Box! The staff even suggested the type of whiskey I should purchase. As soon as I told them it was for the Mad Men premiere, we jumped into conversation about the show. Here’s how my Old Fashioneds came out, pretty good! Cheers- Happy Mad Men Party!
ingredients- Aromatic Bitters, Bourbon, water, sugar, orange slices, lemon wedge and a cherry
Add sugar to taste in a half teaspoon of water. Add a dash of bitters
Add some ice (I don’t know if they had shaped ice cube trays at that time, but if they existed, you know the Draper kids had them!)
Add the bourbon and the fruit, and stir! Here’s the finished product
