Brooklyn Half Increases Security Measures

BrooklynHalf2013

The Brooklyn Half Marathon is THIS weekend!  Starting at 7am on Saturday morning, 25,00 runners will start at Prospect Park and run down Coney Island Ave, finishing on the beloved picturesque Boardwalk.  This race is the second largest half marathon in the country.  Therefore, security measures are not being taken lightly.  The NYPD has ensured the runners and spectators their very best efforts to keep them all safe and sound.  There are increased bag checks, bomb sniffing dogs roaming the course, additional police officers, and no trash cans.  Runners will need to hand their trash to volunteers.  There are also designated reunion areas for runners and their families.  After the Boston bombing, thoughts arose if the turn out for the Brooklyn Half would be diminished.  However, Peter Ciaccia, the Executive Vice President for Event Development for Road Runners said, “New Yorkers are a pretty tough bunch, and they’re not going to let something like this sway them.”  GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF THE RUNNERS THIS WEEKEND!!
