Tree House to be Built from Sandy’s Destruction

Picture the Swiss family Robinson meets The Secret Garden.  That’s what you will discover at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden coming up next month!  Artist and tree house architect Roderick Romero is constructing a 200 square foot tree house, elevated 5 feet from the ground.  All of the wood used in the construction of the tree house are fallen trees from Hurricane Sandy and trees recycled from the last interactive sculpture  Natural History by Patrick Dougherty.  The tree house will be able to fit up to 20 guests at a time and will serve as part open air classroom for field trips, part viewing area, and part artwork exhibit.  BBG says this will allow their visitors to see and experience the garden like never before.  Romero is based in the East Village and has created amazing tree houses for sting, Laurie Anderson and Darren Aronofsky.  During the BBG Spring Break Discovery Week, March 26 -29 and April 2nd from 11am to 1pm, families can go watch the artist at work as he builds the structure.  BBG will host drop in workshops, all  free with BBG admission.  The tree house is set to open April 6th.
